Philadelphia, Pa. – Frank Elegar (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the second half and the Drexel defense held Towson scoreless for the final 4:23 of the game as the Dragons defeated the Tigers, 66-56. With the win, Drexel Head Coach Bruiser Flint recorded his 100th victory at the school.
Drexel (17-6, 9-4 CAA) led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but Towson went on a late run and made it a game. C.C. Williams scored on a lay-up to cap a 19-6 run that cut the lead to 57-56 with 4:23 to play. That would be the last bucket of the night for the Tigers (12-12, 6-7 CAA). Drexel ended the game by scoring nine straight points. Elegar had four of those points including a follow-up dunk with 1:28 to play that gave Drexel a 10-point cushion.
Chaz Crawford (Philadelphia, Pa./Hargrave Military) scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots for Drexel. The senior was 6-for-8 from the floor. Tramayne Hawthorne (Steelton, Pa./Steelton- Highspire) added 10 points and had three assists off the bench. Elegar led the team with nine rebounds.
Gary Neal led Towson with 23 points. He entered the game ranked fifth in the nation in scoring with 25 points per game, but was limited to just 8-for-18 shooting. Dennard Abraham chipped in with 10 points for the Tigers.
The Dragons are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Hofstra. The Pride defeated the Dragons in overtime earlier in the season. Hofstra has won 28 straight regular season home games.
